protopic side effects
« on: Saturday, May 21, 2011, 19:36 »
Hi, I am new to all this, newly diagnosed and need help.  I have been prescribed Protopic cream for patches on my face and eyes but am freaking out as the leaflet inside the box says that some people have developed cancer and lymphoma in some cases after using this cream.  Does anyone know more about this and is this something we should be using?
Thanks

Hi pkb8555,

We have asked a consultant dermatologist to respond to your question regarding Protopic. Once we have his reply we will post this on the forum.

We have received the following reply from a consultant dermatologist:

"The risks are extremely small and probably theoretical (in other words, probably are not a risk at all in humans). I would have no problems using this cream for vitiligo and often presctribe it for my patients.  But the choice is always with the patient."
